Neck Lifts, Defatting and Plication

There are three primary procedures, often used in combination with other procedures such as face lifts, laser skin resurfacing and chin implants to reshape and rejuvenate the neck returning sharpness, proportion and symmetry. Treatment combinations are customized by Dr. Christian Drehsen to address each patient’s specific needs and visualized using specialized imaging software to give you an idea of the potential results.

Neck Lifts are used to correct the loss of sharpness or blunting of the neck angle that often gives an impression of early aging, lack of fitness or weight gain. There can be multiple reasons for this condition. Often, a history of weight gain and loss leaves excess fat under the chin area. Aging or strenuous neck muscle activation (often seen in weight lifters or singers) can also blunt the neck by dragging the skin downward. In some cases it is a family trait where the neck muscles do not produce a sharp sling, accompanied at times by the presence of deep sub muscular fat that can also result in a double chin.

Liposuction, or liposculpture, gently removes excess fat to eliminate neck fullness and is often used to complement neck lifts, face lifts, neck placation and related procedures.

Neck Plication is a surgical technique treats neck thickening, double chins or “turkey neck” waddles by tightening lax or thickening underlying neck muscles, returning visible vertical muscle bands to their natural sheet form. Neck tightening is achieved by making an incision behind the chin crease to tighten the muscles, called platysmal muscles. Dr. Drehsen often combines neck liposuction before making an incision behind the chin crease to surgically tighten the neck muscles. Occasionally a chin implant is used to enhance the neckline and accentuate your profile.
